More on Sebec Lake: Located in central Maine's Piscataquis River Valley, Sebec Lake is surrounded by a land of recreational opportunity. Whether you come to relax in New England's rural countryside or accept the challenge of the Appalachian Trail, Sebec Lake has it all. Boating, fishing, hiking, hunting, canoeing, scenic drives and wildlife viewing are among the many activities found in the Maine Highlands region that surrounds Sebec Lake. A scenic 45-mile drive northwest of Bangor takes you to the rolling hills and wooded shoreline of Lake Sebec. The 11-mile long lake is formed on the Sebec River by the Sebec Dam. Twice a year Sebec Lake's water level is lowered from its average depth of 42 feet to encourage the salmon spawning. More than 800 properties are tucked among the trees surrounding Sebec Lake. Whether you select a lakeside or countryside vacation rental, the lake will provide the perfect home away from home. Here you can wake to fresh mountain air, plan your daytime excursions, and relax to the calling of loons at the end of a perfect day. Visitor needs are served by the quaint communities of Dover-Foxcroft, Bowerbank, Milo, Willimantic and Sebec. Peaks-Kenny State Park is near the community of Dover-Foxcroft. Here you will find 813 acres offering campsites, picnic areas, restrooms, showers, a bathhouse and beach. Several public parks and ramps can be found along Sebec Lake's shoreline, concentrated in the communities of Dover-Foxcroft, Sebec and the village of Sebec Lake. The Milo Public Boat Landing provides access to Sebec Lake from the Sebec River. Maine's Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department places Sebec Lake in Region E (Moosehead Region). They state that the pristine waters of Sebec Lake are one of the original homes of landlocked salmon in Maine. Stocked lake trout can also be found along with smallmouth bass and white perch. The dramatic view that spans Sebec Lake's horizon includes Mount Katahdin. At 5,267 feet, it is Maine's highest mountain and the end of the Appalachian Trail. To the north of Sebec Lake is Borestone Mountain. Here you can hike the trails of the 1,640-acre Borestone Mountain Audubon Sanctuary or visit their interpretive nature center. Located within the shadows of the mountains are Moosehead Lake, Maine's largest lake, and Baxter State Park, where you can enjoy hiking, climbing and camping. Whether you choose to canoe, kayak, bike, hike or drive into Sebec Lake's countryside, the scenery is spectacular. Not to be missed are the nineteenth-century Katahdin Iron Works State Historic Site and two National Natural Landmarks. The first is Gulf Hagas, a 3.5-mile long gorge that is part of the Appalachian Trail. In contrast to the rugged bedrock of the gorge, "The Hermitage" holds 35 acres of Maine's oldest white pines and is protected by the Nature Conservancy. Summer is not the only busy season at Sebec Lake. When "leaf peepers" arrive to view the spectacular color around Lake Sebec, thoughts turn to camping, hiking and the chance to hunt. Among the wildlife to be found in the forests or game preserves are black bear, moose, deer, elk and game birds. During the winter, Sebec Lake residents can expect to see temperatures approach zero with area snowfalls averaging 85 inches annually. This is the season for ice fishing, snowmobiles, skis, snowshoes and dogsleds. No matter the season or choice of recreation, a stay at Sebec Lake will place you central to it all.

Lodge (2000 sq. ft.) in Bowerbank, ME
0 miles from Sebec Lake
Our camp is road accessible, but very remote. It is the second to last camp on the undeveloped north shore of the "Big Lake." We are "off the grid" and generate our own power via solar panels, storage batteries and back up generator. The privacy (swimsuits optional!), expansive views across the widest part of the lake, beautiful sunsets and brilliant stars are the reasons we chose such a remote location. The massive windows in the great room allow you to enjoy the lake vistas even while indoors. The camp has a master suite with a queen-sized bed looking out over the lake, a single bedroom with a queen-sized bed, a double bedroom with one queen-sized bed and one double bed, and bunks for six children in the finished basement. The basement also has a pool table and a ping-pong table for evening entertainment. The open floor plan and easy traffic flow lend themselves to entertaining. The off-grid solar system is state of the art, and you would never know you are off the grid. The camp has a bathroom and shower on each floor, propane and wood heat, a dishwasher, washer and dryer, and ceiling fans in the great room and master suite. There is a stone path to the lakeside deck and dock. A mooring is available, but it can get rough out there. Our family and friends use the camp as much as we can, hence it is not typically available for rent. We rent at reasonable rates because it pains us to see such a beautiful place go unused. That said, we also do not want or need the hassle of doing other peoples' laundry so we ask thAT you BRING YOUR OWN LINENS AND TOWELS. Activities: Boating - the lake is 13 miles long and 4 miles wide. Hazards beyond 200' of shoreline are clearly marked by the state. Popular trips include kayaking along the undeveloped north shore, viewing the sunset from the narrows, going to Earley's Falls where the cool waters of Wilson Stream pour into the lake, going to the outlet of the lake to jump off the bridge, going to the Peaks-Kenney beach in South Cove, or just going over to Greeley's Landing for ice cream. Fishing- Native salmon, lake trout and smallmouth bass are very plentiful in Sebec. Several remote ponds in Bowerbank accessible only by logging roads and ATV trails offer good native wild brook trout fishing: Grapevine ponds, Bear, Mill, Hurd, Buttermilk ponds, Mud, Duck... the list of ponds that support native brookies goes on and on. The East Outlet of Moosehead Lake (1.25 hrs) and the West Branch of the Penobscot (2hrs) both offer excellent opportunities to fly fish for wild LL Salmon and brook trout in a wild and scenic river setting from shore or from drift boat. Hiking - There are numerous mountains, waterfalls and pristine, gin-clear swimming holes in the area to visit. Piopular destinations include: The Nature Conservancy at Borestone Mountain, Barren Mountain, White-Cap Mountain, Mount Kineo, KI-Jo-Mary Recreation Area , Gulf-Hagas, Hay Brook Falls, High Bridge Falls. While Hiking in the KI-Jo-Mary area, stop in for dinner at AMC's Chairback or Lyman camps. ATV - Several ATV trail systems maintained by local ski-mobile clubs interconnect to form a seemingly endless network of trails. You can ride your ATV right from our camp to the trailhead just 2miles away. GPS is highly recommended - its big country out there. Golf - Dover Foxcroft golf course is fairly close by, VERY reasonably priced, VERY kid-friendly, and fairly well maintained. For a full day golf adventure, take ferry from Greeneville to play the historic Mt. Kineo Hotel course. Day Trips - Greeneville on Moosehead Lake (appx. 1.25 hrs), Baxter Park and Maine Woods and Waters (appx. 1,25 hrs), Acadia Park (appx. 2 hrs), Whitewater Rafting on West Branch Penobscot (appx. 1.25 hrs to staging area) Around Camp - swim, fish, boat, kayak, canoe, pick berries, view the incredibly brilliant stars, nap in the hammock, read a book, atv (if you bring one), enjoy a campfire by the lake, disconnect from wifi and reconnect with loved ones.

Enjoy easy access to nearby Moosehead or Sebec Lakes without the crowds and noise or extra cost. Located on the gorgeous and desirable Indian Point area of Lake Hebron, the Finch Camp is a historic cabin situated on an oversized lot with a lovely and serene adjacent private lakeside area. The two-story was the first to be built on Lake Hebron more than 100 years ago, and has been updated to add modern comforts while still retaining its rustic charm. The cabin has peekaboo lake views through the trees and our neighboring camp and is just steps away from our dock on Lake Hebron. Our private lakeside area is in a beautiful grassy clearing nestled among the trees and adjacent to our camp, with two Old Town kayaks and a 15 foot Old Town canoe that guests may use to explore the magical Lake Hebron. There are also plenty of lawn chairs, relaxing chaise lounges and a cedar picnic table. The dock is perfect for swimming, fishing, or mooring your own watercraft. Staying at the Finch Camp is a throwback to earlier times, with delicious fresh spring water provided via an antique hand-pumped well in front of the camp and running water inside. It has a large country kitchen with a gas oven/stove. The large living room has an oversized fireplace and a nice heating system that does a great job warming the camp in the spring and fall. (We close up the camp in the winter.) We also keep an acoustic guitar at the camp and several sing-along song books. The large wraparound porch includes a three burner propane BBQ grill and a relaxing screened area if the bugs come out. It is a pleasant walk to the quaint town of Monson or the nearby Appalachian Trail access, and a short 13 mile ride to Moosehead Lake where you might spot a moose! There are many terrific activities in the area, including waterfalls, hiking trails, river rafting, guided moose safaris, blueberry farms, nearby lakes and streams, antique shops, and much more. Staying at Lake Hebron provides a nice and relaxing family lakeside experience without the crowds you'll find in Greenville, while still being just a stone's throw from Moosehead Lake so you can partake in the many outdoor activities in the area. The ideal seasons to visit are late spring through mid-fall. Late spring is great for fishing and relaxing; summer is wonderful for swimming, hiking, fishing, kayaking, grilling, etc.; and early to mid-fall provides a quieter time to visit to soak in the stunning fall colors, crisp weather, and peaceful tranquility of the lake. Lake Hebron is known by locals to be one of the most beautiful and serene of the many Lakes in the area. Monson is a very friendly town, with several wonderful local restaurants and new art galleries. Monson has long been recognized as a stopover for hikers on the final leg of the 2,180 mile Appalachian Trail -- it is the last stop before the famous (and grueling) 100 Mile Wilderness hike to finish the trail. It is one of only 21 official Appalachian Trail Communities recognized by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy along the trail, which stretches from Georgia to Maine. Please feel free to text if you have any questions about the rental or the area. Thanks!! - Dave F.

Make this your peaceful home “nest” to come back to after a day of serious shopping at the outlet stores in Bangor (45 min. drive, where Steven King lives) or Kittery (3 hr drive), a trip through Acadia National Park & visit to Bar Harbor (just over 2 hr drive), or head to Greenville & Moosehead Lake (51 min drive), Maine’s largest lake, beautiful, & moose outnumber people 3:1! Do some hiking, sightseeing tours/flights (try a moose safari) or some other summertime fun activities (moose safari and whitewater rafting gets our vote)! Wild Acadia fun park is another great place to take the children. There are several “U-pick” farms in the general area for seasonal, organic produce. Leave for day trips and come back to relax & recharge at the peaceful “nest,” or enjoy your entire vacation here to unwind, play and rest; escape the stresses and pace of a busy life. Pack in your food with a favorite bottle of wine and you may find it difficult to go out to dinner or step away from the beauty and tranquility that this home offers. Paddle or row the canoe (3 person) or take a kayak (1 single and one tandem) out to fish (4 poles provided) or skip the fishing and just soak up the calming beauty, day or night. Have fun in the clean and clear water on any of the several floaty lake toys. Two hammocks in the yard for outdoor leisure and naps, one has mosquito netting and doubles as a two person hanging chair swing. If you’re an early riser, you may just see a moose—we have! (Dawn & dusk are the best times of day to see them—we’ve seen moose twice on our road, less that a half mile away!) The gravel road is just over 2 miles and is wonderful for beautiful and quite, peaceful walks, jogging or bicycles. We often see chipmunks, rabbits and deer during the day and with a flashlight, you may spot a porcupine or moose after dark. We have seen moose day and night. The majestic bald eagles, Osprey, turtles, ducks, Great Blue Herons and loons, of course, are regulars on the pond. (If you are interested in bird watching, go a step further & a Sibley’s guidebook for North American birds is on the bookshelf. Swimming is always at your own risk. Life jackets/preservers are provided in various sizes, as well as beach towels for lake use. We offer a shallow wading area that is great for the whole family (water shoes are beneficial), with access from the shore or steps from the 40’ x 12’ dock. Linens & towels are provided. Please bring your own toiletries. If you forget anything, there are local stores in Dover Foxcroft, just 9 miles away (20 minutes).
